SPRITES GEORGE ARBOL URSULA FRÀNÇOIS AND THE ATLAS MOUNTAINS PUMUKY

George

George’s music is a hard to define crossbreed between stormy pop and folk. They are a duo from Manchester formed by Michael Varty and Suzy Mangion, who contributed her vocals to Piano Magic's "Writers without homes", and both Arbol albums. Before the release of "All Good Things" by Lejos, George had released 7” singles on two of the most respected labels in the UK ("The Summer of Stars" on Earworm and "As Houses" on Badjazz) and the full length CD "The Magic Lantern" on Pickled Egg. Their current release "A Week Of Kindness" has been exclusively released in Spain and Portugal by Lejos Discos.

Discography:

"A Week Of Kindness" CD (Pickled Egg-Lejos Discos, 2005)
"All good things" CD (Lejos Discos, 2004)
"The magic lantern" CD (Pickled Egg, 2003)

The Manchester duo, formed by Suzy Mangion & Michael Varty, travels to new landscapes where it is no longer necessary to mention influences such as Broadcast, Basil Kirchin, World Standard or High Llamas, where their incredible personality as musicians/composers shines. All of their musical ability can be found in these fifteen compositions. Claps, banjos, keyboards, guitars, whistles, voices, dums and exciting stories.

GEORGE "All Good Things" CD-EP
LEJ 002
Release date: 03/2/2004
price: 5€

You don't find a song like "Wait" by chance, you have to look inside the clouds and find Suzy Mangion's voice building momentum as an epic storm grows stronger and stronger. It's then that you realize that you've found a real treasure, so intense that the instrumental relaxation on the upbeat of "Man taking a stroll" becomes absolutely necessary. After this short but refreshing intermission you're taken, during three minutes, into "My blue room", with Michael Varty singing this time, to find an universe that could have been imagined by Scott Walker and Burt Bacharach. And to end this four course meal comes "For the last time" , a track were Suzy's voice, mixed with simple but beautiful instrumental ornaments, leaves the perfect taste in your mouth using ingredients once compared to those used by Joni Mitchell or, more on target, to those mixed by Beth Gibons.

This exclusive EP for Lejos contributes to write that great pop recipe, the one that spells the mystery of how to cook really great songs in really small rooms. These are four magnificent examples of delicate though stormy pop, not far from folk, each with their own sweetness, and a special taste that you'll remember forever.
